ICYMI: Single Woman + Pregnancy = Curse

This, according to some who support Christelyn D. Karazin's No Wedding No Womb movement. I invited Christelyn to explain why she felt it was time for her to do something about the alarming rate of young African American single mothers and what she hopes will be the eventual outcome of the movement. She also address the criticism she's received from those who question her motive and method.

Pregnancy is a curse, period. It ruins the body and messes with the mind. And then what -- 18+ years of raising kids? Sounds like a self-imposed life sentence to me!

Choosing to remain childfree is both a rational, pragmatic decision and a powerful moral statement. This is especially true for women, whom evolution has disproportionately burdened with pregnancy, childbirth, and the bulk of the childrearing process. By saying 'no' to procreation, one rejects being just another link in life's endless chain of births and deaths, just another runner in a mindless relay race. It is a confirmation that one isn't a means to an end, but an end in itself.
